System impact of heat exchanger pressure loss in ORCs for smelter off-gas waste heat recovery

Applying Rankine cycles to smelter off-gas could increase the required fan power in an order of magnitude equivalent production. Predicting is not straightforward since it affected two contradictory ways: 1) heat recovery exchanger creates additional pressure loss, increasing power; 2) cooling reduces loss handling system downstream cycle, reducing power. The purpose our study analyze effect on optimum performance. While can be calculated based reduction depends total which unknown. As alternative calculating reduction, we account for by including only parts caused loss. Results from three cases show that both and cycle performance strongly depend potential reduction. Thus, has a significant impact performance, should accounted during design.
